• Question: Do you believe in the big bang theory?

      Hi mommy123!

      I haven’t really thought about it much before… yeah, I probably do believe in it but I don’t feel like I know enough about it! A lot of physicists believe in it! They’ve been trying to recreate ‘the big bang’ by doing experiments in something called a ‘Large Hadron Collider’. Last year, they managed to create a mini big bang: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-11711228 – over 1000 scientists worked on the experiment!

      I think the big bang is the most plausible explanation for how the universe has ended up as it is. However, I don’t think any scientist would claim to properly understand how and why the big bang happened – there is still lots of active research going on in this area and we are learning more as we start to explore space and see what is out there!
