Yes – I used to go fishing but I wasn’t very good! I like the idea of sunbathing by a river or lake all day – very relaxing – but I didn’t like having to remove the hooks from the fish’s mouth though!
I’ve been “cray”fishing which involves setting crayfish traps (that look like this: ) with bait and leaving them overnight. Easy!
I’ve also been electrofishing, in which I used special equipment to pass a current of electricity through the river… the electricity stuns fish (and crayfish!) temporarily and makes it easier to catch them. Usually when I go electrofishing I catch lots of baby salmon and trout (which are called ‘fry’ ). This is what a typical catch might look like: After measuring them and writing down the species, I returned the fish to the river.
In Loch Croispol, I used nets to catch fish and caught some really beautiful trout. Here’s one beside my hand:
I haven’t actually done any traditional fishing, with a rod! I think it would be fun though (or quite boring… if you didn’t catch anything!). Do you fish? 🙂
Yes I have! My uncle and his friend used to have a fish farm out in the sea in Hong Kong. It was really fun but some of the fish that they have were really big and quite scary!
My uncle loves fishing so I have been a few times with him and my cousins! I wasn’t very good at it.. a bit screamish when I have to touch the worms and use them as bates!
