      Hey jumpy759! 🙂

This is a good question… how DO they work?! When you get a credit card, your bank will decide what your limit is (the maximum amount of money that you’re allowed to spend using the card). The limit is based on how much you earn – if you’re very rich, then your limit will be bigger!

On the back of a credit card is a magnetic strip/chip that contains information about your card. When you use a pin machine to buy something using your card, the pin machine sends information to your bank (to check if you have enough money left on your card!) and then your payment info is then sent back to the shop that you’re buying from. If you don’t have enough money or you’re going over your limit, then the transaction will be declined.

I don’t have a credit card…. I think it would be fun to get one and go wild at the shops!! But maybe not such a good idea…. 8)
