I’ll answer this in two ways!

Firstly, I think I have always been a scientist in the sense that I always liked science and always asked questions and was curious about the world around me even when very young. I never lost that curiosity and kept studying what I was interested in until I ended up doing science research.

In terms of my science career:
1994-1996 I did A levels in science and maths
      1996-1999 I did a maths degree
1999-2003 I did a PhD in mathematical biology (using maths to solve problems about animal movements)
2004-2006 I worked in the Irish Marine Institute where I did research into fisheries (using maths and simulations to predict how many fish could be caught by fishermen)
2006-2011 I have worked at the University of Essex doing my own research into animal movement and behaviour.
