      Hi qasim7,

I have studied science in my A levels – Biology and Chemistry then I decided to do Biochemistry at University (3 years) then a Master’s in Oncology (the study of cancer) for 1 year and finally I am now in my 2nd year of my PhD. So by the time I have finished I would have spent 7 years in higher education doing science. Yes I like my job- I find know what goes wrong and why it goes wrong inside cancer cells really interesting and can be quite helpful when designing treatments for patients! 🙂

I have been a research scientist since 1999 when I started my PhD – so about 12 years!

I like my job as I can study what I like and satisfy my curiosity about the world around us! It is also great fun – I like working with other scientists and studying the behaviour of different types of animals. I also enjoy helping younger scientists – I have 6 PhD students who I supervise in their own research projects.

      Hi qasim7 and caarax15!

After studying biology and chemistry in school, I did a degree in zoology which took 4 years… after that, I went back to uni where I’m doing a PhD (3 years of research). I’m almost finished my PhD, so in total that’s 7 years of doing science!

And yes – most of the time, I love my job! I get to study animals and how they behave, which I find fascinating.. I also get to travel, and work outside. I don’t like my job when I have lots of reports to write or have to get up early… but apart from that, it’s all good! 🙂
