I love to read and write stories! I don’t get to do enough of this now. Most of my reading time is spent with scientific articles, but when I get the chance, I like to read adventure stories. Some of the best scientists I know also have a creative outlet. I know musicians, writers, actors and dancers whose day jobs are in the sciences.

I agree with Christine here. Scientists have to be very creative as we are trying to find out new things or new ways of solving problems. Most of the work I do means I have to think up new ideas – you need plenty of imagination and creativity to do this.

I really enjoy reading and always have a book on my bedside table that I am currently reading. I like reading adventure stories and stories about other worlds and places – fantasy and sci-fi stories. In fact in our house we have thousands of books (and not much space!). I used to like wriitng stories but I don’t have much time to do that now – although I enjoy making up stories for my son!

I haven’t written a story in a long time but I do like to write funny poems sometimes. At the start of the year, me and my friends had a Burns Supper, which is a traditional dinner in Scotland where we eat haggis, potatoes and turnip and read out poetry by the famous poet, Robert Burns. We also read out our own poetry, so I wrote a ‘Toast to the Laddies’, which made fun of my male friends 😆 it was a good laugh!

I also like to read, although most of the reading I do is at work and about crayfish stuff! I’m going on holiday in July for a week so I’m hoping to lie on the beach with a good novel then.

I love making up my own stories when I was younger!
I like thinking up a scene and describing what the characters are like etc! I used to try write short adventure or murder mysteries stories stories!! Like Christine, I do find that I have less time to read books that I want let alone think of ideas to write a story!

I think it’s great that you are writing stories because I am guessing you have to be quite organised and good at forward planning your ideas as well as being so creative 🙂

That’s amazing dior, keep it up! I love reading too, at the moment I read ‘the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy’ by Douglas Adams … crying laughing every time. I liked writing stories, and I never get around to it anymore, which is really sad. I draw comics when I have a little time on my hands though.
