      Hi tillyblundell! 🙂

I would aim to study science subjects like biology and chemistry for your A levels. After that, you can apply to do a relevant degree (e.g. in nutrition) at university. I found this: http://www.whatuni.com/degrees/courses/Degree-list/Nutrition-Degree-courses-UK/qualification/M/search_category/9298/loc.html which lists universities that offer nutrition courses. In England, this will take you 3 years (4 in Scotland). Hope that helps!

My friend is currently working in Derby hospital as a Dietitian for people suffering from kidney problems. She did a degree in Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Surrey and after her graduation she started applying for jobs at different hospitals.

I think you can try and contact some dietitian working in your local hospital? You can usually find their work emails on the hospital’s website. Maybe you can arrange a day visit (if allowed because hospitals can be quite strict on visitors), if that is not possible – maybe they can answer some of your questions! It’s always worth trying!

      Good luck

As the guys above have said, biology and chemistry A-levels would definitely be useful.

You could also perhaps start at home by having a look at your own diet and seeing how healthy it is – you can do what is known as a ‘food log’ or food diary (http://www.personal-nutrition-guide.com/weekly-food-diary.html). You record what you eat for a week or a month and can then see whether your diet is healthy or if you are missing anything (e.g. not enough fruit and veg).

I’m vegetarian so sometimes have to be careful to make sure I eat enough of the right food to stay healthy!
