I don’t know exactly what you need to be a fitness instructor but science would be helpful. Biology and physiology are important. Probably physics would help, too. When I was recovering from a serious injury, I started working with a fitness instructor who specialised in injury recovery. He took did a lot of physiology type training and that is essential for injury. To help the weak areas in the body, you have to build up other parts of the body to help the weak areas. Everything in the body is interconnected.

Obviously biology would be a good choice of science subject to study! If you can do modules on human biology and human anatomy and physiology then that would also really help.

The other subjects that might be useful are chemistry and maths. I used to live in a flat with 5 sports science students and they always used to complain about how much maths they were expected to know to do things like biomechanics (analysis of how people move and run).

Biology, and in particular physiology or sports science will be the most relevant if you’re interested in fitness and exercise.

When I was studying for biology at university, I did a class where I had to keep a food diary for a week and write down how much exercise I did. In the lab, I took a number of measurements – body fat, weight, height, oxygen consumption (using a machine called a respirometer) and lung capacity (using something called a spirometer). I used the results to work out how many calories I was burning in a week and how fit I was! It was really interesting. I’d love to repeat the measurements now and see if I’m less fit than I was when I was 17! 🙂

Yeah I agree one of my friend did sports science – he wanted to be a football coach and is working for the MK Dons now. Yeah biology is important I agree!

Here is a website you can check out maybe it will have information because I don’t know much about this?! Hope this helps:
