Most hated lesson? Honestly, it was anything that made me sit still for too long! Hate is probably too strong a word, but English classes were probably my least favourite. It is really funny to type this now, because English is one of the subjects that I teach to my students. Most of my students are not very good at writing, especially science writing, and I run a number of tutorials through the year to help them improve their skills. It helps me, too. I feel like I still have a lot to learn with science writing, so we can learn from each other.
I don’t think I hated any lessons. I didn’t like swimming classes but I liked all other sports!
I found french hard but I realised that it would be useful to speak another language so I stuck with it. In fact, since school I also learned Spanish in night classes and this has been really useful when I have gone off trekking and mountain climbing in France and Spain.
I also didn’t really enjoy music lessons at school, but I now regret not really being able to properly play an instrument well.
I really didn’t like maths! I found it more difficult than my other subjects and I didn’t like one of the teachers (he was scary!). I like it a BIT better now! 🙂
I hated chemistry, I really did. And I hated it throughout my time at school and later even at university. And at some point along the way I realised that chemistry is quite useful if you do biology, and then I could finally learn it because I saw a purpose in it. Before that I really looked at it as an annoying thing people had invented because they wanted to make physics more complicated.
I really liked religious studies where we were taught about different religions until I moved to a catholic school and the only thing I didn’t really like was that we were all just reciting stories from Mark’s gospel! It got really boring!
I preferred learning about all religions!
