      Hi Blondie2,

      Sure- these are the definitions I have got from wikipedia:
      In ecology, predation describes a biological interaction where a predator (an organism that is hunting) feeds on its prey (the organism that is attacked).

      So for example when a lion hunts and eat a deer – the lion is the predator and the prey is the deer being eaten.
      There are different types of predator and prey because they consume different things and some only eat meat and others can eat both or just plants. It is important to have this balance or else the food chain will be unbalanced if all animals only eat other animals. Then you might get extinction of the ‘weaker’ animals and later on the ‘stronger’ animals will have no food and die too. Plants might take over the world too :-s

      1. herbivores (eating plants only), so deer or grasshoppers that feeds on grass
      2. omnivores (eating plants and animals), like ravens – they will eat insects and plants
      3. carnivores (eating animals only), like tigers, sharks and crocodiles
