My answer is going to be all over the place here. I love music so I can’t answer this question easily. I’m hoping others will answer so I will get some ideas.

Most of what I listen to is local stuff. I commute to Glasgow for work and the music scene is amazing. There’s a local guy called Jono that’s a friend of a friend and he does some good stuff. Celtic Connections is my favourite time of the year here for music because of all the artists that converge on Glasgow. The best gig I’ve been to combined Celtic and Chinese music (Abigail Washburn). It sounds strange but it worked. I haven’t lived here long enough to know what other seasons are good for music. Before I lived in Scotland, I lived in Nashville, Tennessee, in the USA, which is known for big hair country music (*so not my thing*) but also attracted lots of other musicians. There were always good gigs around town. I have some leftovers from my time in nashville that I’m not ready to give up. Josh Ritter, Newcomers Home (they don’t exist anymore), Maura O’Connell, Bela Fleck… I could go on forever.

In terms of radio poppy stuff, I agree with Jess. Adele is amazing. Other stuff I’ve heard recently and liked include (in no particular order) Bon Iver, CeeLo Green, Beyonce… Lady Gaga is getting to be way overplayed, but we haven’t had a real personality in pop music in a long time. Geek rock icon Jonathan Coulton is hilarious.

      I could go on forever….

@Christine I agree that Glasgow is a great place if you love music! There’s gigs on every night!

What I listen to depends on my mood but my favourite band EVER are The Beatles. I’m properly obsessed with them, I did the Magical Mystery Tour in Liverpool a few years ago and I play Beatles Rock Band on xbox! 😆

Apart from that, if I’m going out then I like more dancey stuff like electro (David Guetta, LCD Soundsystem, Daft Punk) and indie (The Strokes, The Libertines, Tom Vek). If I want to go crazy then I listen to gypsy punk like Gogol Bordello. And if I want to chill out, then Belle and Sebastian, Villagers and The XX.

Sometimes science and music can be combined! Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ty33v7UYYbw (it’s the same band who do the theme tune to Malcolm in the Middle!)

I like a range of music – although most of what I listen to usually has a guitar in it somewhere. (I definitely like the Beatles as well!)

I like everything form punk (classic like The Clash, Ramones and Sex Pistols to newer stuff like Green Day – although they aren’t that new now! – Futureheads etc) to indie (Smiths, Stone Roses, Strokes, Libertines, Editors, Vaccines etc) and more melodic guitar stuff like Courteneers and British Sea Power. I also like more chilled out music like XX and Belle and Sebastien (mentioned above) and bands like Fleet Foxes and Arcade Fire.

However, I also like folk (Bellowhead!) and classic music as well, and I have loads of trance music CDs hidden away somewhere! So I like a bit of everything!
      🙂

Same here, I listen to lots of stuff! I really like music from the 60s and the 70s like the Beatles, Bob Dylan … and indy rock like Oasis, Green Day. Linkin Park is one of my favorites too. And to lay back and relax I listen to Enya, Enigma and so on. I have recently discovered that some country artists have amazing voices … Dixie Chicks, Taylor Swift … and finally lots of classical music Beethoven and Handel are my favorites.
