I like newts – we have loads in the wildlife pond I built in our garden. We only have common newts at the moment but I remember when i was younger that we used to catch great crested newts (which are very rare now) in our local village pond.
However the newts in our garden pond eat all the baby frogs and frog tadpoles so we don’t have any new frogs in our pond. Apparently a garden pond will only be a ‘newt pond’ or a ‘frog pond’ because they eat each others babies! 🙁
I also like the axolotl: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axolotl
These animals don’t fully develop and stay in the ‘tadpole’ phase all their life. If you do an image search on google for axolotl you can find some great pictures – they look like they are smiling!
My favourite one is called Phyllomedusa trinitatis, which is found in Trinidad. Here’s a photo of me with one (I look a bit sweaty, ew… it was really hot in Trinidad!) Tree frogs have sticky pads on their feet that let them stick to trees. Unfortunately, many frogs are now endangered because of habitat destruction and because of a deadly fungus that is killing them off 🙁
My correct answer would be the Phantasmal poison frog.. small but deadly – you can see that on wikipedia that it is no bigger than a 50 cent!
Phantasmal poison frogs have one of the strongest toxins of frogs.
