Hello, was good chatting to you! 🙂

Where does my work take me…. well, my crayfish fieldwork at the moment is all based in Scotland… but all different parts of Scotland, from the very top (e.g. Loch Croispol, near Durness: ) to near the bottom (e.g. Loch Ken, in Galloway: ).

During my zoology degree, I also went to the Isle of Cumbrae, off the coast of Scotland… and more exotic places, like Cyprus to study sea turtles and Trinidad, in the Caribbean, to study frogs (here’s a sweaty photo of me with a tree frog: ).

As well as doing fieldwork, many scientists (including me!) get to travel to conferences to present their results and meet other scientists. Last autumn, I went to Poitiers in France to do a presentation on my crayfish work and hang out with crayfish geeks from all over Europe! Here I am sharing a drink with some crayfish researchers from the Czech Republic:

Travelling is definitely one of the best things about being a scientist 😀 I’ve made some great friends along the way too – when I was in Trinidad I met a girl from Germany who was also studying frogs. We kept in touch and I went to visit her in Munich a few weeks ago!
