I am very curious about the world and like to understand why things work as they do. By doing science I can find out new things and satisfy my curiosity.

I also like the idea that I am contributing to human knowledge – I am adding to what great scientists have done in the past, and hopefully scientists in the future will find my work useful as well.

Finally, it is great fun – I get to explore and study the things I am interested in and find out new things while working with lots of different people!

      🙂

      Hi sidneix,

I enjoy science because there are so many unexplained things yet to be studied- like ‘Why do we age?’ – This good (and hard) question was asked by several younger people on here and scientists don’t have the whole answer yet! But we are still working hard on it and have some ideas on what causes ageing! Or even simple things like ‘Why do we need sleep’ – many scientists have come up with different ideas to why we do it!

There are thousands of questions in different areas of physics, chemistry and biology! For me, I enjoy that people in my labs help each other out because for example in what I am doing, which is to find some active chemicals in plants to kill cancer cells- I need the help of other chemists to help me purify my plant samples so I can do the biology bits.

So there can be a lot of teamwork and once one of my experiments is finished – I can learn and do a new one! So there is always something new to do especially if you are working on questions that have not been answered yet – it will be some new!!

      I like science because:

      1. I like finding out things that noone else knows!

      2. Science is everywhere…. so it’s important to know a bit about it! If you understand science then you have a greater appreciation for the world around you and how it works.

      3. Science answers the questions that need answering… if it wasn’t for science, we wouldn’t have so many amazing technologies and inventions or medical treatments. We wouldn’t know how fish breathe or what bacteria are. We wouldn’t have ipods or the internet… you wouldn’t be reading this now!

      Science is awesome!

For me personally I like science, because science looks at questions very thoroughly. I want to get to the bottom of things, and I’m very stubborn about that too. The other reason why I like science is because it pursues the truth. The truth is important and everyone should know it. In that way I am hoping to help everyone by finding out stuff.
